Getting Out: Cross Country Skiing

To the Cevannes for skiing! 4 E to rent all the equipment and heavenly blue skies. A groomed trail that was much like White Pass only steeper. We bantered back and forth in English and French all day in the car and on the slopes, enjoying lunch in a round ski hut with a 360 degree view.

So easy it is to live here without a car. The mountains are an hour and a half away. The Mediterranean is six miles on a bike trail. The symphony and opera are a 10 minute walk. Sunday at 5:30 PM we decided to go to a symphony that started at 6 PM. We walked there in 10 minutes, bought two tickets and sat in overstuffed chairs as the conducter joked his way through the program. Exquisite comfort for the ears and the bottom. How much it means to walk to such quality entertainment without the hastle of the ferry. How much it means to have a friend who wants to show us the beauty of the slopes. (Note: the ski season in the Cevannes is only three weeks long so one has to act quickly!)
