Biking through the Vineyards

The Voie Verte (green road) winds from Sommieres toward Nimes on 20 km asphalt km.

The bike path starts at the old railroad station in Sommieres, an old Roman village entered via a 2,000-year-old bridge, and follows an old railroad track for the entire route.

Sommiere is in a flood plane, so the first floors of these old buildings are not used. When it floods, life starts on the second floor.

The bike path rambles through the sun baked vineyards of southern France which account for 30% of the wine consumed in France.

and the owners hide their houses in the cool shade of petit forests.

It felt so good to take a long break at lunch and enjoy some of that shade ourselves.

And then, home…ready to rest from the sun and seven hours of speaking French!
